As best I can tell, the producers of ST:D are operating under the deluded notion that their show is not in conflict with the tone, themes, established continuity or in-universe history of TOS.

While the second season does not yet seem to be all in on gleeflully kicking and trampling on the original while pretending to venerate it the way the first season was, I am still unwilling to invest any interest or passion into a series that seems to be a deliberate Bizzaro world version of the real Star Trek.

We haven't seen that one -- low bandwith, cannot stream, refuse to pay -- but we unexpectedly fell in love with The Orville (DESPITE Seth Macfarlane!) which is an unexpectedly smart and charming (after the first few episodes) transformative Trek work: if all things controlled by Paramount are Star Trek 1.0, Galaxy Quest is Trek 2.0, Orville is Trek 3.0. It's also doing stuff with gender, sexuality and (a teeny bit about race though mostly through "alien cultures") that 1.0 mostly didn't do (DS 9 got closest).
