I had no idea there was an anime version! And it is fascinating that the movie borrowed so heavily from it. I remember despising the movie but later hearing that it improves if you realize the director is criticizing the fascist aspects of the society. Maybe some day it will be on cable on an evening otherwise filled with garbage tv and I can check that out for myself.
