Sorry to keep coming back and commenting on these cases but they've got under my skin. This is the country I live in! As I see it, the effective check at the moment is trial by jury. I think it's very unlikely indeed that they could find a jury anywhere in the country to convict in either of these cases - certainly not on a terrorism charge. If they'd really wanted to prosecute Ms Cameron, they presumably could have done so under some local bylaw or something of that kind, and then slapped a small fine on her. It's interesting that they did not bother.
Which raises the question, is all this purely stupid bumbling, or is it something more sinister, designed to keep us all from stepping out of line? With the added refinement that no one has a clue exactly where the line is supposed to be drawn. I wish I knew.
